The Complete Guide to Feeding Your Baby

everything you need to properly care for and nurture your child

Baby Dishes

PLATES & BOWLS

Many people love to gift new parents with things such as baby dishes. Unfortunately, these tend to be very nice, GLASS sets with adorable little teddy bears dancing along the rims and edges. Perfect for display, but no where near practical for baby use.

Baby dishes are made to be durable and shatterproof, and the reason is quite obvious! When you have a baby picking up his plate and throwing it across the room for fun, or banging his spoon on it happily, you’ll be glad you invested in some extra baby dishes.

There are many features to consider when it comes to baby plates and bowls, each one making life easier for the mother as well as the child.

For the baby learning to self feed, smaller sizes of dinnerware or those with individual compartments are ideal. These offer your baby a small space to work with, as well as corners and edges to aid in more-easily getting food on the spoon. This alleviates a lot of the frustration that comes with chasing food around a normal plate and having difficulty scooping it up into the utensil.

Babies who seem to be practicing for future quarterback tryouts should be offered a weighted plate or bowl, or those with suction cups attached to the bottom. These can be secured to a table or highchair and are a big time and mess saver. And since they are kept in place, your child will have an easier time self feeding, since the bowl isn’t moving in the same direction as his spoon.

For the slow eater, there are dinner plates that have a special compartment beneath them. These compartments are filled with warm water, keeping the separated food above warmer for a longer period of time. Some have multiple sections with their own warming compartments, allowing for a variety of foods that need different temperature control. Ideal for the preparation of an entire meal or if you plan to leave your baby with a sitter.
