Baby cups are essential tools in the weaning process. These sippy cups should eventually replace a baby bottle or breast feedings when the time is right (depending on your unique child).
There are only a few basic features to choose from when considering a baby cup.
- Would one handle, two handles, or no handles be best for your baby? If you opt for no handles, you might want to choose a sippy cup that has ribbed sides or some other form of easy-to-grip feature.
- Do you cringe at the thought of liquids spilling and dripping out of a sippy cup throughout the day, as your child crawls through the house? If so, there are spill-proof baby cups available in stores. These require the child to suck on the tip (they should be used to doing this with a breast or bottle) in order to drink.
- Are you an active mother who’s always going to and from many places? You may want to consider a no-spill sippy cup for use in the car (especially), or perhaps opt for a baby cup with a straw. You also have the option of disposable, tight-lidded sippy cups that utilize a spout or a straw.
If you’re having a hard time getting your child to use a baby cup as opposed to her bottle (or whatever else), consider buying a cup with her favorite disney character or movie scene printed on it. This makes the transition a lot easier for your baby, and she will welcome the new sippy cup more readily.
